I also found a few more spelling errors, which have been corrected, and updated the copyright section to change "legal action" to "corrective actions." Version 2.00 was submitted to GameFAQs on January 01, 2015. ------------ Version 1.40 ------------ This guide, along with all of my others, was updated to include my new email address. Additionally, several of my guides now have a new section, Previous Revisions. This was done mainly to move most of the Version History to the bottom of the file. Also, I think I caught all of the remaining spelling errors, though one or two probably slipped through the cracks. I hope you like the new look! Version 1.40 was submitted to GameFAQs on June 25, 2004. =============================================================================== = Section 03 -- Controls = =============================================================================== _________________________________ | | | _ Nintendo | | _| |_ | [D-Pad] -------->||_ 0 _| SELECT START B A | | |_| [ ] [ ] o o | | o o o o | |________________________o____o___| ***ASCII Nintendo Controller was designed by Colin Moriarty. I, personally, never knew the actual lyrics to the Sesame Street theme song, but now I do. Here they are, for all the world to see: Sunny day sweepin' the clouds away, On my way to where the air is sweet. Can you tell me how to get, How to get to Sesame Street? Come and play! Everything's A-Okay. Friendly neighbors there, that's where we meet. Can you tell me how to get, How to get to Sesame Street? It's a magic carpet ride. Every door will be open wide To happy people like you, Happy people like- What a beautiful.... And now you, too, know the lyrics to the classic Sesame Street theme song! Aren't you just so glad you know the lyrics to the Sesame Street theme song? I hope so, because that is why I put them there. Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Section 04.01 -- Letter Go Round - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Letter Go Round is one of two separate games that the player can choose when the game begins. Letter Go Round is actually a series of six different, smaller games. Some of these games, namely the first three, require the player to match different letters to their upper case and lower case counterparts. Others require that the player spell out a short word, using only the available letters. -------------------- Upper Case Matching. -------------------- In Upper Case Matching, it is the player's mission to correctly match one upper case letter with itself. There are six letters spinning on a ferris wheel, with one of them being the correct letter. In Upper Case Matching, only upper case letters will be used. When Upper Case Matching begins, there is an upper case letter near the bottom of the screen. It is up to the player to wait until the same letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel. When the matching letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel, press either the A Button or the B Button. This will cause the chosen letter to bounce over to the hanging bell, hitting the bottom portion of the hanging bell. This will raise the bell slightly, but not all the way to the top. The second correct guess by the player will raise the bell a little higher. A third correct answer will result in the bell being raised all the way to the top. The letter will then bounce back over to the left and will fall into the circle of stars on the bottom of the screen. When the player guesses correctly, either Bert or Ernie will jump up from below the screen to replace the letter that was lost with a new letter. After three correct guesses in a row, Big Bird will make an appearance, dancing around for a while before going back into the tent on the left side of the screen. After he is gone, fireworks will go off in the background, signaling to the player that he is doing a good job. Now, after every three correct guesses in a row, either Big Bird, the Cookie Monster with Ernie or the Cookie Monster with Bert will make an appearance. All of the groups have their own dances that they perform, and each one is entertaining. After a while, the performers will make their way back to the tent on the left side of the screen. Once safely inside, the fireworks will go off again, sending a repeat message that the player is doing just fine. However, if the player guesses incorrectly, the letter will simply bounce for a while before coming to rest. The letter will then go back onto the ferris wheel and the player will have to try to guess the correct letter. Upper Case Matching is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. -------------------- Lower Case Matching. -------------------- In Lower Case Matching, it is the player's mission to correctly match one lower case letter with itself. There are six letters spinning on a ferris wheel, with one of them being the correct letter. In Lower Case Matching, only lower case letters will be used. When Lower Case Matching begins, there is a lower case letter near the bottom of the screen. Lower Case Matching is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. -------------------- Mixed Case Matching. -------------------- In Mixed Case Matching, it is the player's mission to correctly match one upper case letter or lower case letter with itself. There are six letters spinning on a ferris wheel, with one of them being the correct letter. In Mixed Case Matching, both upper case letters and lower case letters will be used. When Mixed Case Matching begins, there is either an upper case letter or a lower case letter near the bottom of the screen. The second correct guess will raise it a little more, while a third correct guess in a row will raise the bell all the way to the top. The letter will then bounce back over to the left and will fall into the circle of stars on the bottom of the screen. When the player guesses correctly, either Bert or Ernie will jump up from below the screen to replace the letter that was lost in the matching with a new letter. Mixed Case Matching is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. ---------------- One Little Word. ---------------- In One Little Word, it is the player's responsibility to correctly spell a three-letter word, using the letters provided on the ferris wheel. There are six letters on the ferris wheel, like always, and the player must use them to spell the words, one letter at a time. When One Little Word begins, there is a word displayed on the bottom right hand portion of the screen. It is up to the player to wait until the first letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel. When the matching letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel, press either the A Button or the B Button. This causes the chosen letter to bounce over to the hanging bell, hitting the bottom portion of the hanging bell. This will raise the bell slightly, but not all the way to the top. The second correct letter will raise it a little more, while the third correct letter will raise the bell all the way to the top. The letter will then bounce back over to the left and will fall into the circle of stars on the bottom of the screen. When the player uses one of the letters up, either Bert or Ernie will jump up from below the screen to replace the letter that was lost in the matching with a new letter. After the word is correctly guessed, Big Bird will make an appearance, dancing around for a while before going back into the tent on the left side of the screen. After he is gone, fireworks will go off in the background, signaling to the player that he is doing a good job. Now, after every word is correctly guessed, either Big Bird, the Cookie Monster with Ernie or the Cookie Monster with Bert will make an appearance. One Little Word is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. --------------- What's Missing? --------------- In What's Missing?, it is the player's responsibility to correctly finish spelling a three-letter word, using only one of the letters provided on the ferris wheel. There are six letters on the ferris wheel, like always, and the player must use one of them to complete the three-letter word. When What's Missing? begins, there is a three-letter word displayed on the bottom right hand portion of the screen, missing one letter. It is up to the player to wait until the letter needed is on the bottom of the ferris wheel. When the matching letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel, press either the A Button or the B Button. This will cause the chosen letter to bounce over to the hanging bell, hitting the bottom portion of the hanging bell. This will raise the bell slightly, but not all the way to the top. The second correctly completed word will raise it a little more, while the third correctly completed word will raise the bell all the way to the top. What's Missing? is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. ---------------------- Spell The Secret Word. ---------------------- In Spell The Secret Word, it is the player's responsibility to correctly spell a three-letter word, using only the letters provided on the ferris wheel. There are six letters on the ferris wheel, like always, and the player must use three of them to completely form the three-letter word. When Spell The Secret Word begins, there is a circle of stars displayed on the bottom left hand portion of the screen. It is up to the player to correctly spell the three-letter word, one letter at a time. This is the hardest of the spelling games because there are no hints given to the player. The player must wait until the letters needed are on the bottom of the ferris wheel. When the required letter is on the bottom of the ferris wheel, press either the A Button or the B Button. This will cause the chosen letter to bounce over to the hanging bell, hitting the bottom portion of the hanging bell. This will raise the bell slightly, but will not bring it all the way to the top. The second correct letter will raise it a little more, while the completed word will raise the bell all the way to the top. Spell The Secret Word is really without an end, as the player could continue playing for as long as they want. To return to the Letter Go Round menu, press the Start Button. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Section 04.02 -- Ernie's Big Splash - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Along with Letter Go Round, Ernie's Big Splash is another set of games that the player can choose when the game first begins. In Ernie's Big Splash, there are only three different games, all bearing a striking resemblance to one another, as opposed to the six games available in Letter Go Round. All of the games in Ernie's Big Splash revolve around getting Ernie's Rubber Ducky back into the possession of Ernie. In the final two games, Ernie's Rubber Ducky can visit one other person along the way, while only Ernie is on screen for the first game. ------------------ Ernie's Challenge. ------------------ In Ernie's Challenge, Ernie has been separated from his Rubber Ducky, and it is up to the player to reunite them. The player can use any of the more than ten different pieces to connect Ernie's Rubber Ducky with Ernie. When Ernie's Challenge begins, Ernie and his Rubber Ducky are separated. The player can cycle through the available plumbing pieces by pressing in any direction on the Directional Pad. By pressing either the A Button or the B Button, the player can actually lay down the piece of plumbing and move onto the next piece. After Ernie and his Rubber Ducky have been reunited by using the plumbing pieces, the player can press either the A Button or the B Button to watch the Rubber Ducky move along the player created pathway to Ernie. Ernie will then play with his Rubber Ducky. Pressing either the A Button or the B Button again will show the Rubber Ducky going through the pathway backwards, back towards his starting position. Ernie's Challenge can last as long as the player wants. Simply by pressing either the A Button or the B Button, the player can watch the Rubber Ducky move back and forth along the created pathway. To return to the Ernie's Big Splash menu, press the Start Button. ---------------------- Ernie's Fun Challenge. ---------------------- In Ernie's Fun Challenge, Ernie has been separated from his Rubber Ducky, and it is up to the player to reunite them. The player can use any of the more than ten different pieces to connect Ernie's Rubber Ducky with Ernie. This time, one of Ernie's friends is in the tub with him, and is available if Ernie's Rubber Ducky would like to pay a visit. When Ernie's Fun Challenge begins, Ernie and his Rubber Ducky are separated. The player can cycle through the available plumbing pieces by pressing in any direction on the Directional Pad. By pressing either the A Button or the B Button, the player can actually lay down the piece of plumbing and move onto the next piece. In Ernie's Fun Challenge, Ernie's friend is also on the screen, and is available for the Rubber Ducky to visit. After Ernie and his Rubber Ducky have been reunited and Ernie's friend has been visited, by using the plumbing pieces, the player can press either the A Button or the B Button to watch the Rubber Ducky move along the player created pathway, through his friend, and then to Ernie. Ernie will then play with his Rubber Ducky. Pressing either the A Button or the B Button again will show the Rubber Ducky going through the pathway backwards, back towards his starting position. Ernie's Fun Challenge can last as long as the player wants. Simply by pressing either the A Button or the B Button, the player can watch the Rubber Ducky move back and forth along the created pathway. To return to the Ernie's Big Splash menu, press the Start Button. ------------------------ Ernie's Super Challenge. ------------------------ In Ernie's Super Challenge, Ernie has been separated from his Rubber Ducky, and it is up to the player to reunite them. The player can use any of the more than ten different pieces to connect Ernie's Rubber Ducky with Ernie. This time, one of Ernie's friends is in the tub with him, and is available is Ernie's Rubber Ducky would like to pay a visit. When Ernie's Super Challenge begins, Ernie and his Rubber Ducky are separated. After Ernie and his Rubber Ducky have been reunited, and Ernie's friend has been visited, by using the plumbing pieces, the player can press either the A Button or the B Button to watch the Rubber Ducky move along the player created pathway, through his friend, and then to Ernie. Ernie will then play with his Rubber Ducky. Pressing either the A Button or the B Button again will show the Rubber Ducky going through the pathway backwards, back towards his starting position. If it is not obvious by now, Ernie's Fun Challenge and Ernie's Super Challenge are exactly the same. Apparently, they were supposed to be different versions of the Fun Challenge, but the games are exact replicas of one another. Ernie's Super Challenge can last as long as the player wants. Simply by pressing either the A Button or the B Button, the player can watch the Rubber Ducky move back and forth along the created pathway. To return to the Ernie's Big Splash menu, press the Start Button. =============================================================================== = Section 05 -- Closing Statement = =============================================================================== Well, my sixth FAQ/Walkthrough has come to a close. I hope a few people will benefit from having this guide to look at. The Sesame Street series of games on the Nintendo Entertainment System are often overlooked as a great teaching tool for young children. I have found that these games actually will aid in teaching young children how to associate uppercase letters from their lowercase brethren. Also, this game can teach a youngster a few basic three letter words and such. Ernie's Big Splash is more fun than anything, as there is not much that a child could learn from playing the games found in Ernie's Big Splash. I hope that at least somebody found this guide informative, if nothing else. If anyone at all found this guide and actually used it, or even if they thought it was well-written, feel free to drop me a line at: [daniel.j.gordon (at) gmail (dot) com] with any comments or suggestions. It may not be much to look at, but as something that children will think is fun, it ranks right up there as a phenomenal teaching tool. If only more kids these days had access to the original Nintendo.... Alas, it is of no use to dwell on the past. And so, here is to more video games that can actually help children to learn. Thank you for reading, and have a great day. =============================================================================== = Section 06 -- Previous Revisions = =============================================================================== ------------ Version 1.31 ------------ This guide was updated, along with all of my others, to make the Table of Contents look cleaner. I hope you like the changes I have made. Actually, though, I like it, so I am keeping this format no matter what. I guess you had just better like it. I also updated the copyright dates. Version 1.31 was submitted to GameFAQs on January 14, 2004. ------------ Version 1.21 ------------ This guide was updated mainly to include my new Special Thanks and Credits Section. Nothing at all was done to this information in other sections, so don't bother checking. This should be the last update to this file, at least until I decide to change my format again, eh? Version 1.21 was submitted to GameFAQs on October 7, 2003. ------------ Version 1.20 ------------ This guide was updated to reflect that I now allow faqs.ign.com to host my FAQs. Nothing was done to the information contained in the other sections, just the Legal Disclaimer. Version 1.20 was submitted to GameFAQs on July 24, 2003. ------------ Version 1.10 ------------ This guide was updated for two main reasons. One, I decided to tweak the format slightly, most notably in the Table of Contents. Second, I added a Find feature. I realize a Find feature isn't necessarily required for a guide of this size, but some people have requested a Find feature, so I have decided to add one. Hopefully finding specific things in this guide will be much easier from now on. Version 1.10 was submitted to GameFAQs on June 24, 2003. ------------ Version 1.00 ------------ This is the original guide, as submitted to GameFAQs. There will definitely be updates to come, as there is inevitably something else that can go in here. All sections are as complete as I want them for now. All portions of this guide are my own design, except for the ASCII Nintendo Controller, which was designed by Colin Moriarty. Thank you for allowing me to use it in my guides! Work on this guide officially began on June 17, 2003. Version 1.00 was originally submitted on June 17, 2003. =============================================================================== = Section 07 -- Special Thanks and Credits = =============================================================================== First, I would like to thank CJayC for running this site and for hosting this guide. If not for GameFAQs, I would not be as into gaming as I am, and I would not have thought so many other things are possible, other than just playing the game. I would like to thank Colin Moriarty (CMoriarty) for allowing me to use his ASCII Nintendo Controller. He pointed out that mine was too big, so I asked if I could use his. Thanks, Colin! And last, but definitely not least, I would like to thank my close friends on GameFAQs. Especially Steve, Devin, Chad, Brian, Zoop, Trace, and Andrew. You guys are more help than you realize, and I thank you for that. =============================================================================== = = = This FAQ/Guide/Walkthrough is copyright 2003-2015 to Daniel Gordon.
